Enzo Fernandez is the most expensive player in Premier League history
Chelsea have signed Fernandez for a British record £106.8m from Benfica on Deadline day.
It wasn't long Enzo Fernandez was allowed to play at Benfica when he was signed by the Portuguese club in the summer of 22 and now half a year later has been sold to Chelsea in a record deal.
Europe and the world really got their eye on Fernandez after an excellent World Cup for Argentina, where the young midfielder showed his skills both defensively and offensively. His best place is in the defensive midfield, but he has some offensive qualities that mean he also scores goals and assists.
We’ve looked at his stats through his career:
River Plate:
Games: 53
Goals: 12
Assists: 10
Benfica:
Games: 29
Goals: 4
Assists: 7
Argentina:
Games: 10
Goals: 1
Assists: 1
Player stats for Benfica 2022/23:
Tackles per game: 2.4
Key passes per game: 1.8
Long balls per game: 9.5
Pass success: 87.8 %
Shots per game: 1.7
There will be enormous pressure on Fernandez as expectations will be high from fans due to the high price tag. However, he seems like a good signing as he has obvious qualities that will strengthen Chelsea's squad. He is only 22 years old and therefore has the opportunity to develop further and perhaps become one of the best in the world in his place.
