David de Gea equals Peter Schmeichel’s record of most clean sheets for Manchester United
De Gea equaled Schmeichel’s record of 180 clean sheets for Manchester United yesterday against Leicester City at Old Trafford.
The Spanish player played a crucial game against Leicester with more magnificent saves and reach a major milestone with now 180 clean sheets. Him and Manchester United are now only three points behind Manchester City, and they are now a part of the run for the title.
We’ve looked at De Gea’s stats overall for United and his stats for this season in the Premier League:
Most clean sheets in Man United’s history:
180 – David de Gea
180 – Peter Schmeichel
175 – Alex Stepney
161 – Gary Bailey
It is probably only a matter of time before De Gea overtakes the great Dane with the most clean sheets, and thus writes himself into the history books for Manchester United.
David de Gea’s all-time stats for United:
Games: 521
Goals conceded: 564
Clean sheets: 180
David de Gea’s stats for United in the Premier League this season:
Games: 24
Clean sheets: 10
Saves: 66
Saves ratio: 70.2 %
There has been a lot of talk about De Gea's future at Old Trafford, some believe he is not the future due to his age of 32.
But when you have seen his level this season, it does not indicate that the Spanish keeper is about to drop in level, and it will make the most sense to bet on him for the next few years as well and spend the money elsewhere on the field.
He has undoubtedly been a big profile for United and deservedly looks very much like he will write himself into the history books.
