Following an exciting tournament up to this point, let's break down some key matchups to come from the round of 16.

The round of 32 of the Miami Open ended last night with Christoper Eubanks beating Gregoire Barrere and Lorenzo Sonego pulling out the upset win over Frances Tiafoe. Let’s break down a few key matchups to watch out for.

Jannik Sinner looks to continue his impressive Miami Open streak against Andrey Rublev. Though this tournament in particular has, so far, showcased some of the best tennis we have seen from the italian youngster, it should come as little surprise that he shown such form given the year he has had; in every tournament Sinner has participated in in 2023, he has only ever seen a quarter-finals match or better.

Tonight also sees the world #8 Holger Rune face off against world #10 in Taylor Fritz in the danes’ first ever Miami Open. Rune has impressed so far, coming into the round of 16 without dropping a set. Fritz is also coming off of notable performances in the open so far, having beat Denis Shapovalov and subsequently improving his record against the canadian to 4-5.

Teenage tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz is also set to face off against #19 ATP ranked Tommy Paul, rematching their 2022 Montreal Masters matchup, where the American ended up taking the victory. Alcaraz is coming off of an impressive 2023 to date, freshly winning the Indian Wells Masters with a 16-1 record for the season. Tommy Paul, however, will look for the upset, coming in as a 5.50 heavy underdog.

The Argentinian Cerundolo moves past Felix Auger-Aliassime to take back one of three losses he sustained to the canadian this year, and is now set to face Lorenzo Sonego. Despite a higher ATP ranking and coming off of a win against the world #5, Cerundolo still finds himself the underdog.
