A surprising and unfavorable start to the new season for Wolves, as they now need to bring in a new manager who will miss the pre-season and thus the familiarity with the playing style and the players. There hasn't been a specific statement from Lopetegui about his departure, but several sources report that it's dissatisfaction with the lack of investment in the squad, especially considering the players that have been sold.

The club has lost key players this summer: captain Ruben Neves to Al-Hilal, Nathan Collins to Brentford, Conor Coady to Leicester, Raul Jimenez to Fulham, and Ryan Giles to Luton Town.
Matheus Cunha has been equipped with a permanent deal after his loan spell at Wolves, Matt Doherty has been acquired on a free transfer from Atletico, and they have also signed Boubacar Traore from Metz.
