Jannik Sinner finally defeats Medvedev and wins the China Open.
What a year 2023 has been for Jannik Sinner.

When Jannik Sinner started the tennis season in 2023, he was ranked as number 18 in the world. However, the 22-year-old Italian has had an extraordinary year so far, and after the victory at the China Open, he could celebrate being ranked as number 3 in the world. Jannik Sinner won in Beijing for the first time against Daniil Medvedev in his career, and after defeating the world number 2, Alcaraz, he rightfully lifted the coveted trophy.

Sinner can look back on a Wimbledon semifinal, a victory in the Masters 1000 (Canadian Open), and now China Open—a dominant year where he has consistently performed well and advanced far in many tournaments he has participated in.

Jannik Sinner's 2023 season:
◉ Started as World No. 17
◉ First Grand Slam SF
◉ First Masters 1000 title
◉ Defeated Alcaraz and Medvedev
◉ Won China Open
◉ Now World No. 4

ATP rankings:
◉ Novak Djokovic (1)
◉ Carlos Alcaraz (2)
◉ Daniil Medvedev (3)
◉ Jannik Sinner (4)
◉ Holger Rune (5)

Now, with a couple of tournaments left before the tennis season concludes, Sinner's goal should be to reach a Grand Slam final next year. He has gained confidence and proven that he can defeat the best, making it realistic to dream of even greater results. At just 22 years old, he could very well become a future number 1 in the world rankings if he continues his development.
