Top 10 points per game from the Big Five this season

PSG
PSG
The 10 teams on this list are either at the top of their league or have a good chance at finishing the year at the top.

The standards to be at the top in some leagues have been dramatically increased as the level of competition from around Europe increases each year.

These 10 teams are the absolute best from the top leagues in Europe in point-scoring this season. Interestingly, though, being at the top of their league doesn’t guarantee a team a top spot on this list.

Manchester City

Games: 26

Points per game: 2.42

Manchester City have been tearing up the league this year. They have dropped just 15 points so far this season, the second-least amount of points dropped from any team on this list.

They’ve also managed to score a third-best 63 goals and conceded a joint-best 17 goals so far, giving them a second-best goal difference of +46.

Bayern Munich

Games: 23

Points per game: 2.39

Bayern have been scoring machines this season in the Bundesliga. They have scored 74 goals this season and are looking to be on pace to break their own record of 101 goals scored in a Bundesliga season.

Despite their goal scoring efforts, they don’t sit atop this list for one simple reason. The Bundesliga has only played 23 games this season.

The Bundesliga is the only league from the Big Five that doesn’t play 38 games in their season, instead playing 34 because there are 18 teams in the league instead of 20 like the others.

Because of this, Bayern and Dortmund, who feature later in this list, have slightly skewed numbers when compared to the others.

Paris Saint-Germain

Games: 25

Points per game: 2.36

The super team that is Paris Saint-Germain have only lost twice in Ligue 1 this season, but have shared points five times, which, for the standard that PSG are expected to be at, isn’t ideal.

It doesn’t tarnish them too much, though, as they do find themselves at third on this list and top of their league by a cool 13 points.

Liverpool

Games: 25

Points per game: 2.28

Second in the Premier League, Liverpool should be happy with how they have performed this season. In another season, they would be at the top of the league with the numbers they have. But Manchester City have pushed the standards up quite high, so The Reds find themselves in second place.

Fourth on this list represents how respectable they have been this season. They have the same points per game as Real Madrid, who are on top in the Spanish La Liga, - Liverpool rank higher because of a superior goal difference, which would mean in the same league, they would be at the top - and Milan, who top the Italian Serie A.

Real Madrid

Games: 25

Points per game: 2.28

La Liga has been anything but ordinary this year. Barcelona have struggled throughout the year and have only just found their way back into the top four. Reigning champions Atletico Madrid look highly unlikely to retain as they are currently in fifth place and 15 points behind the league leaders.

And that’s where Real Madrid are. At the top, with a strong record of 17 wins, six draws and two losses.

The scariest part about Real is that, while they are very strong this year, with talks of Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe and other high-profile names within football interested in recreating the Galacticos this summer, Los Blancos are going to be unstoppable next season.

Inter

Games: 25

Points per game: 2.16

Funny enough, Inter rank higher than their main rivals and stadium bros AC Milan simply because they have played one less game, even though they find themselves in second place in the league, two points behind Milan.

Comparing the two, though, it does look like Inter have a good chance at retaining their league title and going back-to-back this season once they play their catchup game.

Milan

Games: 26

Points per game: 2.15

Milan have worked their way back from being a mid-table team over the last few years to get back to being a title contender in the Italian Serie A. This season was also the first time they had competed in the Champions League since the 2013/14 season.

They are putting up a strong challenge to become league champions this year. They have the most wins in the league so far and hold a two-point lead over Inter and Napoli.

Borussia Dortmund

Games: 23

Points per game: 2.13

Dortmund finds themselves in a competition of their own at the moment in the Bundesliga. They are six points off leaders Bayern, - which isn’t too much but considering it is Bayern, it is unlikely they will surrender that lead - but are eight points off third place Leverkusen.

Dortmund tends to go for a definitive result, as they have 16 wins, just the one draw and six losses. It seems that their tactic is to go for win and more often than not, they get the result. But obviously it doesn’t always go that way.

Napoli

Games: 26

Points per game: 2.08

The Italian Serie A is the most represented league in this list as it is the most hotly contested one. Every other league has a clear leader, but not Serie A.

Milan leads Inter and Napoli by just two points. However, Inter have a game in hand. So, they could find themselves at the top by just one point over Milan, while Napoli would still very much be in the running, trailing by only three points.

It's still all to play for in Italy, so keep tabs on Napoli and expect them to push hard in the latter stage of the season.

Sevilla

Games: 25

Points per game: 2.04

Sevilla have made the most of a fairly hectic La Liga season with Barcelona and Atletico not performing as well as they should be and have taken up second place.

They are also just six points off Real Madrid, having lost only two games all season, the same as Real. Their downfall has been with draws, as they are joint-third in the league for most draws
