The World Cup favourite's Golden Boot Candidates

England's Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden and Ben Chilwell celebrate together
As it is the international break, we have taken a look at the most prolific scorers from the top five teams most likely to win the 2022 World Cup, according to the bookies.

We have ranked the players based on who had the highest goal per game ratio for their country, choosing from a database of those likely to feature in the competition.
Take a look at this guide so you know who will be most likely to be a golden boot candidate in Qatar later this year.

1. Brazil – Neymar

Appearances: 117
Goals: 71
Goals per game: 0.61
The PSG trickster Neymar has an incredible international goalscoring record, scoring 71 goals in 117 games in his international career so far,
He will undoubtedly be a vital player for Brazil in this year’s World Cup, who find themselves big favourites to win the competition.
Neymar’s international goalscoring record is second only to Pele, who scored 77 goals for Brazil. Could we see him overtake this number in Qatar?

2. France – Kylian Mbappe

Appearances: 53
Goals: 24
Goals per game: 0.45
Kylian Mbappe seems to set the world alight whenever he steps onto a football pitch, and his France career has been no different, scoring 24 in 53 appearances
It’s also worth mentioning that three of France’s top five all time highest goal scorers are also likely to play in Qatar this year, with these being: Giroud (47), Griezmann (42) and Benzema (36), but they all have lower goal to game ratios than Mbappe.
Needless to say, France have some great attacking options at the moment.

3. England – Harry Kane

Appearances: 68
Goals: 49
Goals per game: 0.72
Harry Kane’s last England goal against Switzerland put him to a tally of 49 for his country, just four behind all-time top scorer Wayne Rooney with 53.
Kane is also statistically the most prolific striker on this list, with an impressive goal per game ratio of 0.72.
Judging by that, he has a good chance of being top scorer in the World Cup this year.

4. Spain – Ferran Torres

Appearances: 23
Goals: 13
Goals per game: 0.57
Barcelona’s Ferran Torres may only be 22, but everything points towards him being a top goal scorer for Spain.
In his 23 appearances so far, he has scored 13 goals, an average of 0.57 per game. Not bad for a winger, eh?
With figures like that you can see why Barcelona pulled out all the stops to sign Torres for £50m in January.

5. Germany – Serge Gnabry

Appearances: 31
Goals: 20
Goals per game: 0.65
Serge Gnabry has had quite the rollercoaster of a career: after being shipped out by Arsenal to Werder Bremen in 2016, to joining Bayern Munich in 2017 and to now becoming one of Europe’s best wingers.
He is also Germany’s most prolific goal scorers at the moment, with a goal per game ratio of 0.65.
The winger will undoubtedly be a key player for the Germans in Qatar and his form may be key as to how far they progress in the competition.
