The art of tackling shouldn’t be underestimated and we’ve looked into the top 10 best tacklers in the Premier League this season.
10. Cheick Doucoure
Cheick Doucoure was a savvy purchase for Crystal Palace this summer and his tenacity has been a welcome addition in the Palace midfield.
So far this season the 22-year-old has made 20 tackles at a success rate of 36.4%.
9. Joelinton
The transformation of Joelinton since Eddie Howe arrived at Newcastle has been staggering.
In his new role as a pressing midfielder, the Brazilian has won 21 tackles, more than anyone else in the Newcastle squad.
8. Pascal Struijk
Leeds United have won 57 tackles this season, more than any other Premier League club.
Pascal Struijk has completed a total of 23 tackles with a success rate of 58.3%.
7. Kenny Tete
Kenny Tete has the highest tackle success rate in the Premier League with a success rate of 85.7%.
In total, the Fulham full back has won 24 tackles and also provided three assists.
6. Nathan Patterson
Since joining Everton from Rangers, Nathan Patterson has taken to Premier League football with ease.
The 20-year-old defender has won 24 tackles this season and has started in all seven of Everton’s Premier League fixtures this season.
5. Tyler Adams
Tyler Adams ranks as Leeds United’s top tackler this season with a total of 24 tackles won this year.
The American midfielder has adapted well to life at Elland Road so far and he has helped offset the loss of Kalvin Phillips.
The 23-year-old has applied 130 pressures and made 14 blocks this season.
4. Neco Williams
It’s no secret that Nottingham Forest have struggled to keep the ball of out the back of their net, but Neco Williams still manages to rank as one of the Premier League’s top tacklers.
The former Liverpool defender has won a total of 25 tackles, with a success rate of 28.6%.
Forest have conceded an xG of 14.5 this season, which is the highest of any Premier League team.
Clearly, Steve Cooper’s side need to tighten things up at the back, but Williams has still managed to have a positive impact so far.
3. Boubacar Kamara
Aston Villa were crying out for some midfield reinforcements last season and they have got just that in Boubacar Kamara.
The French midfielder has started in each of Villa’s Premier League games this season and he has made more tackles than anyone else in the squad.
Overall, the 22-year-old has won 26 tackles with a success rate of 47.1%.
2. Ruben Neves
For quite some time now Ruben Neves has been one of the most underrated midfielders in the Premier League and Wolves have done well to keep him around for another season.
The Portugal international has completed 30 passes which have travelled more than 40 yards and he is definitely one of the best passers in the league.
As well as being so composed on the ball, Neves is also brilliant off it.
Neves ranks second in the Premier League for tackles won with 27 so far this season.
Wolves manager Bruno Large believes that Neves is worth ‘£100 million’ and it’s hard to argue with how consistent he has been for Wolves.
1. Joao Palhinha
Joao Palhinha has proven to be an excellent signing for Fulham and he is the exact type of player they have lacked in their previous Premier League outings.
The Portuguese midfielder has added a combative edge to Fulham’s midfield in the Premier League and he has played a large role in their excellent start.
In total, he has won 29 tackles and currently ranks as the top tackler in the Premier League.
