The top performing goalkeepers from Europe’s top five leagues

We’ve seen some great goalkeeping performances throughout Europe this season and we’ve picked out the top 10 performers so far.

We’ve ranked the 10 best shot-stoppers from Europe’s top five leagues, based on their save percentage this season. 

10. Jordan Pickford – 83.9%  

Jordan Pickford will be missing from the latest England squad due to injury, but he sure has had a superb campaign up until this point. 

The Everton goalkeeper had a vital role to play in the Toffees grinding out a 0-0 draw with Liverpool and so far he has a save percentage of 83.9%. 

9. Ivan Provedel – 84%  

Lazio have kept things tight at the back this season as they have only conceded five goals in their opening seven Serie A matches. 

Their goalkeeper Ivan Provedel boasts an impressive save percentage of 84% so far, having made 21 saves.   

8. Pau Lopez - 84.6%  

Pau Lopez has adapted well to life at Marseille, who currently have the second-best defensive record in France. 

Marseille have only conceded four goals this season and Lopez currently has an impressive save percentage of 84.6%. 

7. Frederik Ronnow – 85%  

Union Berlin have defied all sorts of statistics so far this season as they currently sit top of the Bundesliga on 15 points. 

The German side have scored a total of 14 goals from an xG of just 5.9 and they also have one of the best defensive records in the league. 

Frederik Ronnow has maintained a save percentage of 85% this season as he has saved 17 of the 20 shots he has faced. 

6. Mattia Perin – 85%  

In the absence of Wojciech Szczesny, Mattia Perin has had to step up into the number one role at Juventus this season. 

The Italian goalkeeper currently has the best save percentage in Serie A with a 85% save rate. 

Juventus have been quite frustrating in front of goal this season, but they have kept things tight at the back, having only conceded five goals so far.

5. Gianluigi Donnarumma – 85.7%  

Christophe Galtier has settled on Gianluigi Donnarumma as his number one this season and so far, the Italian has repaid his faith in him. 

PSG currently boast the best defensive record in Ligue 1, having only conceded four goals this season. 

Donnarumma is a towering presence in goal and he has managed a save percentage of 85.5%.  

4. Geronimo Rulli – 89.5%  

Villarreal have only conceded two goals across their opening six matches and Geronimo Rulli has had a key role to play in that stability. 

The Argentine goalkeeper has a save percentage of 89.5% and has made 17 saves so far this season. 

3. Yann Sommer – 90.9%  

Yann Sommer ranks as the best goalkeeper in the Bundesliga right now with an impressive save percentage of 90.9% to boast. 

He has already made a total of 40 saves this season, which is considerably more than any other goalkeeper on today’s list. 

2. Neto – 90.9%  

Mark Travers had a crucial role to play in Bournemouth sealing promotion to the Premier League, but there’s no doubt that Neto has proven to be an upgrade so far

The Brazilian goalkeeper currently leads the way in the Premier League with the highest save percentage at 90.9%. 

Neto has featured in three Premier League games this season and has managed to solidify Bournemouth at the back. 

1. Marc-Andre ter Stegen – 92.9%  

Claiming the number one spot as the most in-form goalkeeper in Europe right now is Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen. 

The German goalkeeper has only conceded one goal in his first six appearances of the season as Xavi’s side have kept things water-tight at the back. 

In total, he has a save percentage of 92.9%, which is higher than any other goalkeeper across Europe’s top five leagues.
