The top 10 most creative players in the Championship this season
The Championship has been as entertaining as ever so far this season and the league is home to some of the best playmakers in the EFL.
We’ve dived into the stats and ranked the top 10 most creative players in the Championship this season based on key passes.
10. Grady Diangana
West Brom have had a frustrating start to the season as they have drawn six of their opening nine matches and currently sit 20th in the Championship.
They haven’t had any problems with creating chances though as they currently rank first in the Championship for shots taken per game with 15.3 on average.
After an inconsistent campaign last time Grady Diangana has been more influential this season and he has made 18 key passes.
9. Daniel Barlaser
Rotherham’s Daniel Barlaser is a crucial component to how they play under Paul Warne.
The midfielder has already produced an impressive four assists from 18 key passes.
8. Jack Clarke
Sunderland have had a turbulent start to the season with losing manager Alex Neil to Stoke, but their attacking quality has shone through.
Jack Clarke has settled into life well at Sunderland as he has produced 20 key passes and already has six goal contributions this season.
7. James Bree
James Bree currently ranks as one of the most creative full backs in the Championship and he has continued to go from strength to strength since joining Luton.
Nathan Jones likes to have his full backs bombing up and down the pitch and Bree is a great example of this.
The 24-year-old has two assists from 21 key passes so far this season.
6. John Swift
No player created more chances in the Championship than John Swift last season for Reading and he has been just as creative for West Brom this time around.
Despite the Baggies struggles, Swift has produced 22 key passes and has three goal contributions this season.
5. Ryan Giles
Everyone thought that Ryan Giles and Chris Wilder would be a match made in heaven and so far it’s turned out to be true.
Giles has been a seamless fit into Wilder’s 3-5-2 system and as a left wing-back he has produced 23 key passes and has three assists already.
4. Sorba Thomas
Sorba Thomas was one of the best chance creators in the Championship last season, particularly with his quality from set-piece situations.
Despite Huddersfield having their struggles this season, Thomas has still managed to provide 24 key passes.
3. Jed Wallace
Coming in as the third West Brom player on today’s list we have Jed Wallace.
The former Millwall winger has regularly featured around the top of the Championship’s most creative players and he has made a good impact at the Hawthorns so far.
Wallace has scored three goals and grabbed one assist during this season's campaign as well as producing 24 key passes.
2. Alex Pritchard
After how his previous Championship campaign went with Huddersfield, Alex Pritchard is a man with a point to prove this season.
Since moving over to Sunderland, he seems to have put his injury-hit past behind him and he’s been one of their most consistent performers.
He assisted nine goals in Sunderland’s promotions season and he is already off the mark with three assists in the Championship this year.
In total, Pritchard has produced 24 key passes and just falls short of the top spot.
1. Ilias Chair
Coming in first place and as the most creative player in the Championship this season we have QPR’s Ilias Chair.
The Moroccan playmaker has produced a total of 25 key passes and he has registered five assists already, more than any other player in the Championship.
Chair has built up a brilliant relationship with Chris Willock on the pitch and when these two are at their best, there’s no stopping QPR.
