Harry Watkinson
The Premier League’s most prolific crossers
A good crosser of the ball is a great resource to have in football, and we’ve ranked the top five most prolific crossers in the Premier League this season.
Crosses don’t always mean assists, but they provide service to strikers and can get their team goals from rebounds and second balls in the box.
We’ve broken down the average number of crosses these players make per game as well as the number of their assists so you can see how successful they are in creating goals.
James Ward-Prowse (Southampton)
Played: 29
Crosses: 248
Crosses per match: 8.6
Assists: 4
Ward-Prowse has all-but confirmed his place in England’s World Cup squad after an excellent season for Southampton, filled with free kick worldies and masterclasses in box-to-box play.
He has supplied an average of 8.6 crosses per match, the highest amount in the Premier League which has meant good service for Saints’ strikers Armando Broja and Che Adams.
He’s been linked with moves to Arsenal, Aston Villa and Spurs and that’s unsurprising given his performances.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)
Played: 26
Crosses: 213
Crosses per match: 8.12
Assists: 12
Liverpool’s right back Alexander-Arnold has made a name for himself as one of the best crossers in world football, making 213 this season.
He’s picked up 12 assists so far, the most of any player in the Premier League, showing he is truly vital in Liverpool’s team and their success this season.
If the Reds want to lift the title this season, he will need to stay at the top of his game in all their matches this season.
Dwight McNeil (Burnley)
Played: 30
Crosses: 160
Crosses per match: 5.33
Assists: 1
Dwight McNeil was on the radar of some big clubs at the start of the season because of his ability to run down the wing and supply good balls in the box, and he’s certainly backed that up again.
He’s supplied 160 crosses in this campaign, but amazingly has only picked up one assist.
Perhaps that’s more Burnley’s striker’s fault than McNeil’s, as their main centre-forward Jay Rodriguez has scored only two league goals this season.
Andrew Robertson (Liverpool)
Played: 23
Crosses: 157
Crosses per match: 6.83
Assists: 10
Incredibly, two of Liverpool’s full backs feature in this list and the second is Scotsman Andrew Robertson, who has supplied lots of crosses for the Reds this season, with a total of 157.
He has also picked up the second-most assists in the league with 10, clearly, Liverpool’s full backs are key to their attacking play.
Salah, Mane, Jota, Firmino and Diaz have had plenty to feed off from their full backs this season.
Son Heung-Min (Tottenham Hotspur)
Played: 28
Crosses: 154
Crosses per match: 5.5
Assists: 7
Son has had yet another exceptional season with Spurs, scoring 17 goals so far and picking up seven assists.
The Korean winger is also the fifth most prolific crosser in the Premier League, making an average of 5.5 per game, providing some good service to Harry Kane.
But in general, Spurs’ front three of Son, Kane and Kulusevski have been excellent in recent weeks, with all of them providing chances for eachother, giving them a great chance of Champions League football next season.
