The most clinical players in the Serie A: Vlahovic, Okereke, Arnautovic
The Serie A is currently the home of some of the most exciting attackers in European football and we’ve looked into the most clinical players so far.
Dries Mertens was ranked as the most clinical player in the Serie A last season with an xG overperformance of 6.4 goals.
We’ve ranked the top five most clinical players in the Serie A, based on their xG this season.
5. Dusan Vlahovic
Dusan Vlahovic scored a total of 24 goals last season for Fiorentina and Juventus.
He signed for Juventus in the most recent January transfer window and he had the task of replacing the goals scored by Cristiano Ronaldo in the previous season.
Juventus have had to rebuild the entire spine of the squad as last season they had six players who were over the age of 30 that played over 1000 minutes of league football.
Dusan Vlahovic has been part of this new rebuild and he has started the season well so far.
While Juventus themselves have dropped points in four of their opening six matches, Vlahovic has been a consistent source of goals.
In five league appearances this season he has scored four goals and he has overperformed his xG by 1.8 goals.
Juventus average 13 shots per 90 and Vlahovic himself takes 3.94 shots each game.
4. David Okereke
David Okereke has adapted to life well at Cremonese so far this season.
The forward spent last season out on loan at Venezia from Club Brugge and he scored seven Serie A goals in total.
He’s already off the mark with two goals in six appearances this season for his new club.
The forward has only taken six shots this season with a total value of 0.2 xG, which he has been able to overperform by 1.8 so far this season.
3. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia grabbed plenty of plaudits after Napoli dismantled Liverpool in the Champions League and he has had an excellent start to his league campaign.
The Georgian winger signed for Napoli in this summer on a deal lasting until 2027.
Across his first six league appearances for the club he has already scored four goals and overperformed his xG by two goals.
In total, he has taken 18 shots and nine of them have been on target.
With Lorenzo Insigne recently departing, Kvaratskhelia knew he had some big boots to fill, but so far he has been doing the business for Napoli.
2. Teun Koopmeiners
Teun Koopmeiners has already managed to match his goal output from last year with four goals in his first six matches of the season.
Two of his four goals have come from outside the box and he has caught the eye of plenty of fans so far this season.
The Dutch midfielder has overperformed his xG by two goals in total, the second biggest xG overperformance in the Serie A this season.
Koopmeiners has also taken two penalties this season and scored from each of them.
1. Marko Arnautovic
Plenty of people were surprised Marko Arnautovic was linked with Manchester United this summer, but they might have been onto something after all.
The Bologna forward currently leads the way in Serie A for goals scored with six so far this season.
In total, he has overperformed his xG by 2.2 goals and he is well on his way to matching his goal tally of 14 goals from last season.
Since joining Bologna from Shanghai Port last season, he has been a consistent provider of goals and this season has been no different.
