The highest rated XI from the Premier League this season

Saka
We’ve dived into the stats to find out who the highest performing players in the Premier League have been so far this season.

We’ve compiled a team of players with the highest average match ratings, according to Whoscored.

Goalkeeper: Jordan Pickford

Jordan Pickford has a save percentage of 83.9% this season, which is the highest of any goalkeeper that has played more than six matches.

The Everton goalkeeper has been out of action lately with an injury, but he has started the season well so far.

Pickford has an average match rating of 7.26, which currently ranks him as the best in the league.

Right back: Kieran Trippier

England’s most in-form full-back right now isn’t Trent Alexander-Arnold or Reece James, but is in fact Kieran Trippier.

The Newcastle defender scored a phenomenal free-kick against Man City and has also put in a string of consistent performances.

He has averaged a match rating of 7.29, whilst averaging 1.1 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game.

Centre back: Fabian Schar

Fabian Schar has kept things tight at the back for Newcastle this season as his team have kept three clean sheets whilst he has been on the pitch.

Schar has an average match rating of 7.35 and has continued to improve under Eddie Howe.

Centre back: Joachim Andersen

Joachim Andersen has been a brilliant signing for Crystal Palace and he stepped up to a new level this season.

Patrick Vieira’s side tend to keep things quite tight at the back and Andersen has been one of their most consistent performers since he arrived.

The Danish defender has an average match rating of 7.27, which gets him a place in this side.

Left back: Joao Cancelo

The role Joao Cancelo has to play in Pep Guardiola’s system is absolutely fascinating.

The Portuguese full-back will often step into midfield and as a result of that he gets plenty of the ball.

Cancelo averages 79.7 passes per game and also creates around one chance per game. He has an average match rating of 7.50 and has been one of Man City’s best players this season.

Right midfield: Bukayo Saka

While Bukayo Saka has only scored one goal this season, his overall game has still been as good as ever.

He has been Arsenal’s main creative outlet this season with four assists so far. Saka has an average match rating of 7.33 from the seven matches he has played this season.

Central midfield: Kevin De Bruyne

There are no surprises here as Kevin De Bruyne makes it in as one of the highest-rated players this season.

The Man City playmaker has already created six goals this season, which is more than any other player in the league.

The Belgian has averaged 3.3 key passes per game and has an average rating of 7.79.

Central midfield: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

The role Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has to play in Antonio Conte’s Spurs side shouldn’t go underestimated.

He has averaged 1.9 tackles and 1.1 interceptions, whilst also chipping in with three goal contributions this season.

Overall, he has a match rating of 7.53 and has been superb this season.

Left midfield: Gabriel Martinelli

It seems as if Gabriel Martinelli has matured a lot as a player over the last 12 months.

He has looked sharper in front of goal, with three goals to his name so far and he has an average rating of 7.48.

Striker: Aleksandar Mitrovic

Aleksandar Mitrovic wasted no time in dismissing the speculation that he wasn’t good enough for this level as he has had a terrific start to the season.

The Serbian forward has also been on form for his country recently and he has an average rating of 7.79 in the Premier League.

Striker: Erling Haaland

Whatever league he is in, Erling Haaland will score goals for fun

Man City’s new striker has already scored 11 goals this season from an xG of just 7.4 and has an average match rating of 8.13, which is the highest in the league.
