The forwards in La Liga with the highest xG this season: Fati, Benzema, Morata

Karim Benzema
La Liga is home to some of the best forwards from around Europe right now and we’ve looked into the top 10 players with the highest xG this season.

10. Alvaro Morata

Alvaro Morata is back at Atletico Madrid after a two-year loan spell with Juventus in Serie A.

The former Chelsea forward has started the season well and has scored three goals from an xG of 2.1.

The Spanish forward has a higher xG than anyone else at the club and could prove to be a useful player this season.

9. Ezequiel Avila

Osasuna are going well in La Liga at the moment as they currently sit fifth in the table on 12 points.

Ezequiel Avila has been their biggest goalscoring threat so far, scoring three goals from an xG of 2.2.

8. Ansu Fati

After an injury-hit few years, Ansu Fati has got himself back up and going at Barcelona.

The teenage star has plenty of competition for a spot in the side with all of Barcelona’s attacking options, but he has managed to make an impact so far.

Fati has scored two goals from an xG of 2.4 in total.

7. Inaki Williams

Inaki Williams has been one of Athletic Bilbao’s most reliable players over the years and he has continued to deliver the goods this season.

The Spanish forward has scored two goals from an xG of 2.9, which is higher than any other player from his club.

6. Gerard Moreno

Gerard Moreno’s most prolific season with Villarreal came back in 2020/21 where he scored 23 league goals.

He is already off the mark with two goals this season from an xG of 3.1.

5. Vinicius Junior

Vinicius Junior is arguably the most exciting young player in world football right now.

His ability to dribble, create and score makes him such an intriguing player to watch at the moment.

Last season he produced his best goalscoring season to date and he has been one of Real Madrid’s biggest attacking threats this season.

The Brazilian winger has scored four goals from an xG of 3.1 so far this year.

4. Joselu

Espanyol haven’t had a great start to the season as they currently sit just above the relegation zone on goal difference.

The Spanish forward has still managed to score three goals this season though, from an xG of 3.3.

3. Karim Benzema

Karim Benzema might have only played in four matches so far this season, but he still manages to rank amongst the top forwards in La Liga.

The French forward scored a total of 27 league goals last season, which was his best ever return.

So far this season he has scored three goals from an xG of 4.2, which means he is slightly underperforming his xG as things stand.

Real Madrid have had a flawless start to their La Liga campaign as they currently sit top of the league and they will be keen to get Benzema back sooner rather than later.

2. Borja Iglesias

Borja Iglesias currently ranks as the second highest scorer in La Liga and his xG also reflects this.

The Real Betis frontman has scored six goals from an xG of just 4.4, giving him an overperformance of 1.6 goals this season.

1. Robert Lewandowski

Whether he’s playing in the Bundesliga or La Liga, Robert Lewandowski will score goals wherever he goes.

The Polish forward has taken to his new club with relative ease as he has scored eight goals from an xG of 7.3 across his first five matches for the club.

Lewandowski leads the way in La Liga for goals scored and it would be no surprise to see him win yet another Golden Boot this year.
