The favourites for the Championship Golden Boot
Last season Aleksandar Mitrović ripped apart the Championship with a record-breaking 43 goals, but who’s expected the win the Golden Boot this season?
We’ve taken a look into the latest odds to compile a list of the current favourites.
Joao Pedro – 20/1
Watford’s Joao Pedro is no stranger to the Championship as he scored nine goals in Watford’s 20/21 promotion season.
The young Brazilian star is expected to be an integral part of Rob Edwards side for the season and a main source of their goals.
Elijah Adebayo – 20/1
Luton have already gone about strengthening their forward options with the introductions of Carlton Morris and Cauley Woodrow, but there’s no doubting that Elijah Adebayo is still the main man.
Last season Adebayo scored 16 goals, with a goal conversion rate of 30%.
Michael Obafemi – 16/1
Swansea’s Michael Obafemi finished last season in fine form as he averaged a goal every 168 minutes throughout the season.
His shot accuracy of 67% makes him one of the most accurate shot-takers in the league and he’s expected to surpass his goal tally of 12 goals from last season.
Karlan Grant – 16/1
Despite West Brom’s struggles last season, Karlan Grant still produced the goods as he chipped in with 18 league goals for the Baggies.
In his last two full Championship season’s Grant has scored 18 and 19 goals and so he’s a fairly safe bet to be up and around the 20 goal mark.
Jay Rodriguez – 16/1
The last time Jay Rodriguez was in the Championship he scored 22 goals.
The 32-year-old is back in the EFL this season with Burnley and right now he looks like he will be their starting striker.
Since his return to Turf Moore, he has scored 21 goals across 107 games in the Premier League.
Emmanuel Dennis – 16/1
Emmanuel Dennis was one of the few high points for Watford in what was a bitterly disappointing season which ultimately ended in relegation.
While he does look more likely to leave than stay, he would be a real asset in the Championship. Last season he scored 10 goals from an xG of just 7.5, highlighting how clinical he was.
Daryl Dike – 14/1
It would be easy to overlook Daryl Dike for the golden boot as he had a somewhat unspectacular arrival at West Brom in January as he picked up a season ending injury straight off the bat.
However, a fully fit Daryl Dike is certainly capable of challenging for the golden boot, especially when you consider West Brom have added the creative sparks of John Swift and Jed Wallace.
Between them last season, Swift and Wallace created 171 chances and a clinical striker like Dike would massively benefit from this.
Joel Piroe – 9/1
Swansea’s Joel Piroe is currently being linked with several Premier League clubs, but Swansea should look to do everything they can to keep hold of their prized asset.
The 22-year-old scored 22 goals in his debut Championship season with a goal conversion rate of 29%.
Ben Brereton Diaz – 9/1
Blackburn's Ben Brereton Diaz is coming off the season of his career as he scored 22 goals to fill the void that was left by Adam Armstrong.
Brereton Diaz is a dynamic forward who is quick on the break and is able to play through the middle or off the left-hand side.
Last season he averaged a goal every 139 minutes and so if he was to play every minute for Blackburn this season with the same goalscoring ratio, he would finish the season with 30 goals.
Teemu Pukki – 7/1
Were you really expecting to see anyone else as the outright favourite?
Across his two seasons in the Championship, Teemu Pukki has scored 56 goals and he already has one Championship Golden Boot to his name.
In the Premier League, Pukki was Norwich’s most clinical player as he scored 11 goals, having averaged just 1.88 shots per 90.
