The comeback kings of the Premier League
There have been some great comebacks in the Premier League so far this season, but who are the best sides at coming from behind?
Throughout the season so far, we’ve seen some great comebacks in the Premier League and hopefully, there’ll be plenty more to come. We’ve looked into the numbers to find out who the best sides are at coming from behind.
10. Newcastle
Since Eddie Howe’s arrival at Newcastle, there has been an obvious uptrend in their form and they’ve managed to be much more resilient. After going behind against Everton, they went on to win the match 3-1 and they have since climbed out of the relegation zone.
Newcastle have won seven points from losing positions and if they keep up their current form, they should avoid the drop.
9. Leicester
Brendan Rodgers has been having a tough time of it lately at Leicester, but scoring goals hasn’t been a problem for them. They have picked up seven points from losing positions, which includes their dramatic 4-2 win over Man United earlier in the season.
8. Southampton
The Saints have come from behind in their last two Premier League matches to win four points against Spurs and Man United. Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side currently sit in the top half and have recently strung together a series of solid results.
They have picked up seven points from losing positions throughout the year so far.
7. Man United
Historically known for scoring late goals, Man United have picked up eight points from losing positions this season. United have won two matches after falling behind, whilst also picking up a point in a couple of other matches where they were trailing.
6. Chelsea
Chelsea have been good at leaving things late this season as they have scored five goals after the 90-minute mark, more than any other Premier League side. They have also picked up eight points from losing positions, which includes coming from two goals behind to draw with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge,
5. Brentford
Brentford currently find themselves on a torrid run of form, having lost five of their last six matches and slipping back towards the relegation zone. Bee’s fans can take some solace though from the fact they have picked up nine points from losing positions this season.
4. Everton
In just three games in charge of Everton, Frank Lampard has already seen the good, the bad and the ugly. Everton currently sit just five points above the relegation zone, but they will take some confidence from their 3-0 win over Leeds last time out.
Everton have managed to pick up 11 points from losing positions however, the concern is the fact they have been trailing in 17 of their matches this season.
3. Brighton
Brighton have defied the odds all season as they currently sit in the top half, just four points off a European spot. They might not be the most prolific of teams, with Graham Potter’s side just averaging over 1 goal per game, but they have been watertight at the back.
Brighton have accumulated 11 points from losing positions, which includes the dramatic late point they picked up against Crystal Palace.
2. Spurs
Antonio Conte’s side have been having a tough time lately, having lost four of their last six matches. However, they do have a good track record when it comes to scoring late goals and getting back into matches.
Spurs were involved in one of the best comebacks we’ve seen this season against Leicester, where they were trailing in the 94th minute and two late goals managed to wrap up all three points. Spurs have also picked up 11 points from losing positions, which isn’t bad going.
1. West Ham
Claiming the number one spot as the comeback kings of the Premier League this season, we have West Ham. David Moyes’ side have built on the foundations that were set last season and they are now in the race for a top four finish.
The Hammers have picked up an impressive 13 points from losing positions, which includes four wins.
