The 7 Premier League players with the highest average WhoScored rating of 22-23

The Premier League returns this weekend and we've identified the best performing players of the 2022-23 season to date.

Here are the top seven Premier League stars, ranked from lowest to highest by their average rating on WhoScored.

7. Ivan Toney (Brentford - 7.60)

Toney has kicked off the new Premier League season in style and, after scoring a hat-trick against Leeds in August, has now recorded five goals and two assists from his opening seven games.

The Brentford striker was even called into Gareth Southgate's England squad for September's Nations League matches although he didn't get onto the pitch.

But the 26-year-old won't care too much; he's enjoyed a splendid season to date and will feel confident of firing Brentford to another mid-table finish.

6. Allan Saint-Maximin (Newcastle - 7.67)

There’s been no stopping Saint-Maximin this season when he’s in full flow and, if he can maintain his current trajectory, then Newcastle will have one of Europe's most special talents on their hands.

His performance against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side during a thrilling 3-3 draw was a particular joy to behold and even had the Spaniard lauding him as a 'really dangerous' asset in his post-match press conference.

And with one goal and two assists from his opening four matches, there seems to be mounting evidence that he’s fulfiling his potential for the Magpies.

5. Harry Kane (Tottenham - 7.69)

Kane’s horrendously bad start to the last Premier League season, after his potential switch to City fell through, is now firmly a distant memory.

The England captain has been on top form for his club and has racked up six goals already, along with his continuing creative genius, as Spurs have made an equally fast start.

While Erling Haaland has been making that figure look meagre in comparison but, in reality, Kane is still averaging near enough a goal every game and he's playing himself into great form ahead of November's World Cup.

4. Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal - 7.75)

Jesus joined Arsenal from Manchester City over the summer and has wasted no time in getting amongst it under Mikel Arteta, becoming the Gunners form player this season.

Four goals and three assists mark an impressive return from the Brazil international but he’s contributed so much more than that through his intelligence and dogged work rate on the pitch.

Arsenal's strong start has been one of the most compelling storylines of the Premier League season to date and, if the club are to achieve Champions League football for the first time since 2016-17, Jesus will surely continue to play a central role in their rise.

=2. Alexsandar Mitrovic (Fulham - 7.79)

Mitrovic has scored exactly 50% of Fulham’s Premier League goals this season as Marco Silva's side look to be making a better first of survival than their previous couple of attempts in the league.

The Serbia international hit the ground running by single-handedly tearing Liverpool to shreds on the opening day of the season, scoring two in the process and he’s also notched another four times since.

There were doubts whether Mitrovic would adapt to the Premier League after a disappointing 2020-21 campaign. Nobody's airing those views now.

=2. Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City - 7.79)

De Bruyne is rightly considered one of the finest players to ever grace the Premier League and has been busy proving he’s everything he’s cracked up to be and more.

It's one goal and six assists and counting for Guardiola’s star midfielder.

1. Erling Haaland (Manchester City - 8.13)

The difference between 1st and 2nd place is 0.31. That speaks volumes about the incredible impact Haaland has made at City.

After a goalless Community Shield appearance, which left rival fans rubbing their hands in glee, the 22-year-old has scored a jaw-dropping 11 goals in 7 games and broken all kinds of records in the process.

He's already the top scorer in Europe's top five leagues and we're excited - and kind of scared - thinking about how many he'd have scored by Christmas time.
