Teams with the best defensive record in the Premier League

Jordan Pickford
The Premier League teams with the best defensive record so far, based on conceded goals.

Newcastle United Goals Conceded: 8

The Magpies have lived up to the expectations so far this season and have only conceded eight goals. Newcastle United's improved defense comes down to 'hard work' which has made the team much more organized under Eddie Howe. But also Pope, Trippier, Schar, Botman, and Burn have been extremely strong in the back-four.

Brentford will make the long trip to St. James Park on Saturday and here we predict a 63% probability for under 2.5 goals.

Brighton & Hove Albion Goals Conceded: 8

Brighton have conceded eight goals so far this season and conceded three of them on Saturday at Anfield, but with a hattrick from Trossard, they secured one point. Only Manchester City and Arsenal have a better xG-A (expected goals against them). Brighton doesn't allow their opponents to create dangerous chances against them and this is one of the reasons why they are 4th in the standings.

Brighton will face Tottenham Hotspurs next time at AMEX Stadium and we've calculated a 58% probability for under 2.5 goals

Arsenal Goals Conceded: 8

The Gunners maintained their position at the top of the Premier League standings with a convincing 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspurs. The central midfielders have had a huge impact on their good defensive work, and with an xG-A on 7.40 goals, this indicates their high pressing work protecting the defenders. Xhaka and Partey have been fantastic in the midfield and it's impressive how much they protect the team, that's also one of the reasons why they have the second lowest xG-A in the league.

Most of our calculations indicate that it will be a high-scoring game on Sunday when Arsenal welcome Liverpool to Emirates Stadium.

Everton Goals Conceded: 7

Everton survived relegation last season in the final rounds of the Premier League and one of last season's big problems for Lampard & co was their defense. It looks like he have fixed a huge part of their defensive problems where Jordan Pickford has been one of the reasons why they have only conceded 7 goals and have an xG-A (expected goals against them) which is 5.84 goals better than their real xG-A on 12.84 goals.

Everton takes on Manchester United on Saturday at Goodison Park and our calculations indicate that the probability of under 2.5 goals is 75%
