Teams from Europe’s Big Five who have received the most penalties

Napoli's Lorenzo Insigne converts a penalty
Penalties are always a good market to bet on. To aid selections for who is given the most and who converts the most, we've come up with this handy list.

Knowing which European teams receive the most penalties can be a good way to inform your betting.

This article ranks the sides who have received the most pens in the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1 so far this season.

We also break down how many of these penalties each team has scored and missed – which is useful for markets like ‘to score a penalty’ and ‘to miss a penalty.’

Premier League

Manchester City currently top the Premier League table and have been aided by scoring six penalties so far this season, with Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling being their main penalty takers, scoring four and two respectively.

With City receiving a PK in over a quarter of their matches this season, backing them to score one in any given game could be a good call.

Interestingly, Arsenal have one of the worst PK conversion rates in Europe’s ‘big five,’ scoring just 25% of their pens in 2021/22.

La Liga

While Valencia have not enjoyed a particularly successful league campaign, they have received more penalties than any other Spanish club so far this season, being awarded seven pens in 26 matches.

Their main PK taker is Carlos Soler, who has a 100% conversion record thus far. Goncalo Guedes is their backup taker and took the only missed penalty this season in a 4-1 defeat to Real Madrid in January. But he since scored one against Alaves two weeks ago.

With the club being awarded a PK in almost 27% of their matches, there is a good chance they could score a penalty in any league game.

Bundesliga

RB Leipzig are battling for Champions League football next season, currently sitting in fourth place on goal difference, with Freiburg and Hoffenheim on the same amount of points (40). They have been helped by being awarded more penalties than any German top-flight club, with eight.

They have scored seven of these PKs, with a mixture of players taking them. The scorers include Andre Silva (three), Emil Forsberg (three) and Christopher Nkunku (one) – with Dominik Szoboszlai being the only player failing to convert from the spot.

A bet on Leipzig to receive a penalty in any given match could be a savvy move.
