PREVIEW: Liverpool vs Manchester United

Image Description
Prediction, lineup and team news

Liverpool and Manchester United rekindle their rivalry as the Reds take on the Red Devils at home tonight, as two of the best teams in Premier League history, and this season, go against each other's throats in a much anticipated game in the Prem's calendar.

A fixture fueled by proximity and industrial rivalry of two cities, considered by many to be one of the biggest matches of each season, even bigger than games against teams like Manchester City and Everton.

Liverpool are currently unbeaten against the Red Devils when playing at home since Jürgen Klopp's arrival to the club, being the longest undefeated run against United in the entirety of Liverpool's existence. But additionally, no other premier league teams have ever scored and won more at Anfield than Manchester United has, meaning the history these two clubs share goes way back and a lot more can happen than expected.

Currently seated 3rd (Man U) and 6th (Liverpool) and separated by a comfortable margin of 10 points, Liverpool must win tonight's game as this could give them a little momentum into the next couple match ups if they want to break the top 4 spots . As a previous championship winning team, Liverpool have the experience and youth to go against some of the biggest English teams this season. Man City have revolutionized their team with the addition of Erling Haaland, who has been on a rampage since day 1 as he currently sits at the top in goals scored with 27 so far, meaning he could even beat Alan Shearer and Andy Cole's joint record of 34 goals scored in a single season.

With 12 games left in the season after this match, Liverpool need to make a push to come back to a more dominant position. In contrast, Manchester United are looking towards the title, as they have come back in the last 10 games with 9 wins and 1 loss (vs Arsenal) which has propelled them to third place. Now only 6 points behind City and 11 away from Arsenal, it is imperative for United to win tonight, as most of the upcoming games they have will be against lower seeded teams, meaning more likely to rack up wins. Besides having to go against Chelsea, Newcastle and Spurs, Manchester United do have a chance to win the prem this year.

Of course the Mancunian side isn't only competing in the Premier league, so far they have pushed to the quarter finals of both the Europa League after beating Barcelona, and of the FA Cup, after getting rid of current league leaders Arsenal FC. This means more games for United, which tends to lead towards more injuries, more fatigue, but also the chance to win all three major competitions this season. On top of that, they just recently won the EFL cup against other finalist Newcastle United. The game was decided in regular time as Casemiro and Rashford found the back of the net in the 33rd and 39th minutes of the game.

More recently, in their last 6 games, Liverpool have drawn once, lost twice and won three times, with all the wins coming from prem games.

In contrast, Manchester United have in their last 6 games, won 5 times and only drew once, which came from the first leg of the Barcelona vs Man Utd game in the round of 32 of the Europa League, where United found the win in the second leg.

Tonight's lineups:

Liverpool possible starting lineup:
Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Bajcetic; Salah, Gakpo, Nunez

Manchester United possible starting lineup:
De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Fred; Antony, Fernandes, Rashford; Weghorst

Predictions
Manchester United to win 2-0
Over 1.5 goals in the game

Overall we predict Manchester United to win the game and break Liverpool's home record this season largely due to the lack of healthy players on Liverpool which have shown in the last couple games.

Additionally Man U have been on a rampage in the last couple weeks, as winners of the EFL Cup, Contenders in the FA Cup, round of 16 competitors in the Europa League, and finally have come back from a dodgy beginning in the prem this season but have had an impressive comeback that allows them to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Finally, United will be making use of wings in the game to complement Weghorst at the center position.
