Premier League Matchday 32 rundown

Mason Mount scores Chelsea's sixth goal of the game against Southampton
Matchday 32 of the Premier League was highlighted by Manchester City Vs Liverpool, but amongst the weekend was some other brilliant games that provided us with a nice few days of football.

The title deciding match that was the main event of the weekend put on a stellar show. Manchester City and Liverpool were both in top form, and neither could find a way past the other. A fitting result for arguably the two best teams in the world right now.

But that obviously wasn't the only game of the weekend. It was yet again another exciting weekend of football.

Everton kicked it off with a surprise result against Manchester United, Chelsea ran riot against a stunner Southampton, and Tottenham kept up their good run of form.

Here's how the whole weekend looked from some statistics and certain angles.

29 goals

Every match saw at least one goal this weekend, with only two matches having just one goal scored.

There were a number of high scoring results. Chelsea and Tottenham in their games combined for 10 goals just between the two of them, while the big title decider had two goals for each side.

What's more is the weekend surpassed last weekends total of 25 goals. Though, if you remember, there were nine games played last weekend to this weekend's 10.

However, last weekend had a 2.78 goal per game rate, so working with that, that one extra game still would've meant this weekend was more prolific than last.

This weekend had a 2.9 goal per game rate, but most importantly, between the two weekends, there has already been 54 goals scored this month. It looks very likely that April will exceed March's total for goals of 90.

25.7 xG

Back to normal with the xG then, after last weekends disappointed by underachieving by its xG.

Matchday 32 greatly exceeded its xG total. Even if it lost a game, if it kept the same goals per game rate of 2.9, it's would have still beaten the xG total for the weekend.

Similarly, if one more game had been played, then using either the actual goals per game rate of 2.9 or even the xG goals per game rate of 2.57 and added it to the xG total, it still wouldn't surpass the actual total for the weekend.

That's just how strong the weekend was for goals.

Saves: Hugo Lloris (Tottenham), 100%

Tottenham followed their 5-1 victory over Newcastle with a 4-0 victory at Aston Villa. But that's not to say they won easy, though.

In fact, the stats show that Aston Villa were actually the better team. More possession, more passes made and attempted, and more shots and shots on target.

It's the latter of those those stats which is related to Spurs' win, though, as their goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris, was able to keep out every shot.

He faced eight shots in total and not one got past him. Other keepers on the weekend also kept a 100% save rate, but none faced as many shots on target as Lloris.

Pass accuracy: Chelsea, 90% (669 of 743)

The Chelsea show was in full force, but we'll get to the full extent of their victory next.

Passing wise, Chelsea played the ball round Southampton like they were playing a bunch of school kids.

So impressive were Chelsea that they're player with the lowest pass accuracy, Timo Werner with 77.4%, is still higher than Southampton's whole team pass accuracy, which was 72%.

Best team performance: Chelsea

Chelsea's dominant win over Southampton started in the eighth minute with their first goal. They never gave the Saints a chance to settle, and as such capitalised on their weakened opponents.

Chelsea held 69%, hence why they were able to string the nice passing display together. They had 24 shots total, the most from any team over the weekend, with 14 of them being on target, again, most of any team over the weekend, which is a 58% shots on target percentage, and with six goals from 14 shots on target, that's a 43% conversion rate.

Best player performance: Mason Mount (2 goals 1 assist)

Mason Mount was the star on show for Chelsea, scoring two goals and getting one assist. It's not too surprising he loves a game against Southampton, though, as he is from Portsmouth, so its always a derby game for him.

Mount had three total shots, each hitting the target, which gave him a 67% conversion rate.

He had an 81% pass accuracy, with 34 of his 42 passes finding its target. He also had four shot creating actions and, of course, one goal creating action.

Surprise result: Brentford 2-0 West Ham

With this result, Brentford have managed to do the double over West Ham this season after the beat them 2-1 earlier in the year.

There were multiple candidates for this weekend's surprise result. Everton beating Manchester United would've been a good choice, Arsenal losing to Brighton at home as well.

But Brentford's victory over West Ham takes it as it is the first time Brentford have done the double over West Ham in a league season since the 1953/54 season.

In terms of the result and how the teams played, though, the stats show Brentford earnt their win

West Ham slightly beat them on possession (53%-47%), and passing, with 83.6% pass accuracy to Brentford's 81.9%.

But its the shots that matter, and that's where Brentford won. They had 15 total shots with seven on target to West Ham's five total, one on target.
