Players with the biggest goals to xG difference from Europe's top five leagues
The 10 players on this list represent the most overachieving players from the top five leagues in Europe in terms of the difference between their actual number of goals scored to their expected goals.
Scoring doesn't come easy for every player, but for the 10 players on this list it sure does seem like it does.
Here are the 10 players from the top five leagues in Europe who are most overachieving in accordance to the difference between the amount of goals they have scored this season to their expected goals tally.
Martin Terrier (Rennes): +6.7
The player coming in at the number one spot on this list might be a name you're not familiar with.
Martin Terrier has been the major driving force behind Rennes fantastic season so far which has them up in third place in the French Ligue 1.
He is joint second for most goals scored this season with 19 goals, two behind leader Kylian Mbappe. He also comes in third in the league for goals per 90 minutes, with his rate sitting at 0.75.
He is having his most prolific season of his career by far and is sure to be a target for multiple teams this summer.
Enes Unal (Getafe): +6.4
Another name which may not be so familiar is that of Getafe forward, Enes Unal.
The man from Turkey is Getafe's top scorer by a big margin - he is the only player who has scored more than five goals this season so far.
He's not having his most prolific season of his career (just yet, at least). That came five years ago when he scored 18 goals for Twente in the Dutch Eredivisie.
However, he has failed to reach double digits in a season since then, so it's good to see him back on track with 15 goals scored so far this year.
Giovanni Simeone (Hellas Verona): +6.3
Giovanni Simeone is having a brilliant first season with his new Italian side, Hellas Verona - the fourth Italian team he has played for in five years.
And that's not on him not being good enough. He has only failed to score 10+ goals in two of those five seasons.
But this year is by far his best as it is the first time he is overachieving by his xG for the season (or at least since fbref have been keeping count).
He is his team's top scorer, but maybe most impressively, he has not got a single goal from a penalty. 16 goals scored, none from the spot.
Franck Honorat (Brest): +6.3
Franck Honorat is another name which isn't the most well-known, but maybe going forwards everyone should keep tabs on him.
The Frenchman has bounced around France and between the first and second tier but has seemingly found his place with Brest.
He is instrumental in Brest having their best season in Ligue 1 since they returned to the top flight. With his 11 goals, he is the team's top scorer, but he also has four assists, which is joint second most on the team as well.
He is having his best season of his career to date and will be hoping he can keep this level of play up going forward.
Kevin De Bruyne (Man City): +6.3
The biggest name on this list and one of the best players in the world, Kevin De Bruyne is having a rather different kind of season.
Normally we'd expect to see Kevin towards the top of the assist leaderboard more so than the goals one, but this year he has only tallied three assists but scored 11 goals.
He is Manchester City's top scorer this season, so it seems he took it upon himself to take over from Sergio Aguero after he departed last summer.
He's been at the top of the game for so long now, its excusable to think the Belgian maestro can't surprise us anymore. Yet here he goes, do it again.
Wissam Ben Yedder (Monaco): +6.2
Wissam Ben Yedder has been plying his trade for Monaco for three seasons now, and has been doing magnificently in each. Even before when playing Sevilla and Toulouse, he was the team's top scorer and arguably best player.
This season, he has totalled 19 goals so far, which has him joint second in the French Ligue 1 for goals. It is also one goal shy of his best for a season, so chances are he will beat it.
Being Monaco's primary penalty taker has had its advantages as well. He has taken seven penalties this season and has converted them all.
Dusan Vlahovic (Juventus): +5.9
Dusan Vlahovic is one of the best young strikers in the world right now. He earned himself a big move from Fiorentina to Juventus in January and has continued his form which has seen him as one of the best strikers in Europe this season.
He is second for goals in the Italian Serie A this season, having scored 17 goals for Fiorentina before making the move to Juventus, where he has scored an impressive six goals in 10 games for a total of 23 goals this season.
He is just three goals shy of taking the golden boot away from Ciro Immobile, so he is in with a shout if he carries on the way he has been going so far.
Angel Correa (Atletico Madrid): +5.4
It is important to note that Angel Correa is predominantly a wide player who will cut inside rather than your standard striker like the majority on this list. That's important because it makes his goal tally this year somewhat more impressive.
Correa is having what might just be his best season of his career. He has 11 goals, the most he's ever scored, and notched five assists, so he needs two more goal contributions to surpass his best tally of 17 he set last year.
And with a rate of 0.88 goals plus assists per 90 minutes, - and a goal rate of 0.61 alone - it definitely seems like it won't be a might about it being his best season of his career.
Christopher Nkunku (RB Leipzig): +5.3
Christopher Nkunku is one of the most impressive players in Europe right now, mainly for the fact that he has been improving year after year and becoming one of the brightest stars in the game.
After moving from PSG to RB Leipzig, he found his place a in a team with a lot of potential that needed that one player to step up. He took it upon himself to be that player, and he has paid Leipzig back twofold.
17 goals and 13 assists this season in the German Bundesliga means he is fourth for most goals, second for most assists and second for most goals plus assists in the league.
Ciro Immobile (Lazio): +5.2
Ciro Immobile is the Italian Serie A's top scorer this season, which means he has a good shot at winning his fourth golden boot.
He has been Lazio's top scorer every season since he joined them in 2016, which is an incredibly impressive streak of six seasons.
He is also the joint second top scorer in all of Europe's top five leagues.
