Players in Europe’s Big Five with the most assists this season

A great playmaker can make or change a game. The ability to create a goal-scoring opportunity is not something that should be taken for granted. These players are amongst the best in Europe and deserve the credit.

Sometimes, great assists are even better than goals and playmakers have the ability to turn games around with just a pass.

This article ranks the top five assisters from the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1, and provides the player’s average amount of assists per game.

This handy guide can help inform betting on markets such as ‘player to make an assist,’ so if you’re a savvy statistician, make sure you give this a read.

Premier League

One of the keys to Liverpool’s success this season has been their full-backs, so it’s unsurprising to see both their right-back: Trent Alexander Arnold and left-back: Andrew Robertson in the top three PL assisters this season with 10 and nine assists respectively.

Of course, we also cannot forget Mohamed Salah, who has the joint-most assists in the league with Alexander-Arnold, as well as bagging 19 goals so far. 

For the PL, this playmaking trio are all great options when backing players to get assists in matches.

La Liga

Karim Benzema is well-known for his goalscoring record, but this season he has also provided the most assists in La Liga, joint with Oscar Trejo of Rayo Vallecano, with nine assists a-piece.

Benzema’s great form is undoubtedly key to Madrid’s league success, contributing 19 goals as well as his assists, helping the Blancos to the top of La Liga.

Trejo is a lesser-known player, but at 33 years of age, he is enjoying his best-ever season, with nine assists and three goals in 23 league appearances.

German Bundesliga

Thomas Muller is definitely a legend of German football and despite being 32, he is still providing plenty of assists and goals for Bayern Munich this season.

Muller, who has assisted 19 times in 23 games, has the highest amount of assists in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

Florian Wirtz and Christopher Nkunku are two other good options for betting on this market in the Bundesliga, with 10 and nine assists respectively.

Italian Serie A

Domenico Berardi has always been highly rated with the ability to provide through balls and crosses – and this season has been no different.

The 27-year-old Italian has already recorded 11 assists in the 2021/22 campaign, which is the joint-highest amount of his career.

Calhanoglu, Candreva and Milinkovic-Savic are three other prolific playmakers to take note of, too.

French Ligue 1

Another season and there are more impressive statistics for Lionel Messi, who leads the Ligue 1 assist rankings with 10, despite playing just 16 matches.

Messi is the joint leader with his Paris Saint Germain teammate Kylian Mbappe, who also has 10 assists, but the Frenchman has played eight more games than Messi. Although, he has scored 14 goals as well. Needless to say, the pair are linking up very well.

Another player worth mentioning is Dimitri Payet, with the West Ham icon registering nine assists and an average of 0.39 per game.

All three of these players are great options when looking at ‘players to make an assist’ markets.
