Most offside teams from Europe's Big Five

Being offside so much can often end up looking like an art. As such, these are the 14 best artists in Europe's Big Five leagues.

Being caught offside can be seen in two ways. Either the attacking player is too oblivious to realise he is in an illegal position, or the defence is very well-organised and is capable of playing the offside trap.

Whichever way you want to see it, these 14 teams make the top 10 most offside teams from the Big Five leagues.

Most interestingly, though, is that not a single Bundesliga team has made the list. The first German side just missed out on making the list, coming in at the number 11 spot.

1. Real Madrid - 75

Real Madrid are the biggest offenders when it comes to teams most caught offside. Real’s total of 75 offsides this season equates to three a game.

Real won’t mind, though, as they have scored 51 goals and still see themselves at the top of the Spanish La Liga.

Their worst offender is Karim Benzema, with 24 offsides.

2. Hellas Verona - 71

Second on this list is Hellas Verona, who have a rate of 2.73 offside per game. The Italian side occupy 9th place in Serie A, having scored 49 goals so far this season.

Their worst offender is Giovanni Simeone, with 23 offsides.

3. Empoli - 66

Another Italian side comes in at the number three spot, with Empoli racking up 66 offsides on the season. They average 2.54 offsides per game. They sit in 13th place in Serie A with 38 goals scored

Their worst offender is Patrick Cutrone, with 17 offsides.

4. Burnley & Villareal - 64

Burnley is the first English team to feature on this list (but not the only one), while Villareal is the second Spanish side (also not the last).

Burnley have a rate of 2.78 offsides per game. They are in 18th place in the Premier League and have scored 21 goals this season. Their worst offender is Chris Wood, with 16 offsides.

Villareal have a rate of 2.56 offside per game. They occupy 6th place in the Spanish La Liga and have scored 42 goals this season. Their worst offender is Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld, with 12 offsides.

5. Sampdoria - 63

Sampdoria is the third Italian side on this list and in the top five. Their 63 total offsides averages out as 2.42 offsides per game.

They find themselves in 14th place in Serie A and have scored 35 goals this season.

Their worst offender is Francesco Caputo, with 27 offsides.

6. Monaco - 62

The first French Ligue 1 side on this list, Monaco has racked up 62 offsides this season with a rate of 2.48 per game.

They are in 6th place in Ligue 1 and have scored 38 goals this season.

Their worst offender is Wissam Ben Yedder, with 14 offsides.

7. Torino - 60

Torino is the fourth and final Italian club on this list. They have committed 60 offside offences for the season, which is 2.4 offsides per game.

They are in 10th place in Serie A, with 32 goals scored in 25 games this season.

Their worst offender is Antonio Sanabria, with 20 offsides.

8. Manchester United - 59

The second of two English Premier League sides on this list, Manchester United and their rather disappointing season has seen them total 59 offsides at a rate of 2.27 per game.

Man United (somehow) find themselves in 4th place in the Premier League with 46 points. They have scored 44 goals in 26 games this season.

Their worst offender is Cristiano Ronaldo, with 24 offsides.

9. Atletico Madrid, Athletic Club & PSG - 58

Three teams take up the 9th spot on this list, with two sides coming from the Spanish La Liga and one table-topper in the French Ligue 1.

All three teams have played 25 games so far this season which means they each have a rate of 2.32 offsides per game.

As mentioned, PSG are at the top of Ligue 1 with 59 points and 53 goals scored.

Their worst offender by far is Kylian Mbappe, with 24 offsides.

Atletico Madrid occupy the 5th spot in La Liga with 42 points and 45 goals scored.

Their worst offender is Luis Suarez, with a list-low 9 offsides.

Athletic Club, also known as Athletic Bilbao, takes up 8th in La Liga with 37 points and 29 goals scored.

Their worst offender is Inaki Williams, with 17 offsides.

10. Lille & Rayo Vallecano - 57

Lille and Rayo Vallecano round out the list with 57 offsides each.

Reigning French Ligue 1 champions Lille aren’t having as strong a year this year. They currently find themselves in 11th place with 36 points, 23 points off of leaders PSG. They have scored 32 goals in 25 games.

They have a rate of 2.28 offsides per game. Their worst offender is Burak Yilmaz, with 30 offsides, which makes him the worst offender for a player on this list.

With Rayo Vallecano marking the fifth Spanish La Liga side on this list, it means the Spanish league wins with the most teams on this list. Not too sure it's a great achievement to have.

Rayo Vallecano has a rate of 2.38 offsides per game. They are in 11th place in the league with 31 points, having scored 28 goals in 24 games.

Their worst offender is Radamel Falcao, with 12 offsides
