Head-To-Head: Tottenham vs West Ham

West Ham's Declan Rice goes after Tottenham's Harry Kane
Under half the games for matchday 30 in the Premier League, but at least we are still being treated to a great matchup in Tottenham vs West Ham.

This weekend of football is divided up into Premier League and FA Cup, with only four of the ten games for Matchday 30 taking place.

One of them, and the feature game for the weekend, is a London derby in the form of Tottenham vs West Ham. It’s a six-pointer once again, with both sides in the race for fourth place.

Both sides picked up wins in their last outings and will look for another in this one. But who has the advantage?

Goals

Tottenham: 44

West Ham: 48

These two capital teams have been fairly evenly matched all season, as the stats will show.

Just four goals in it between the two sides, although West Ham have the superior difference in xG to actual goals scored.

West Ham are over-performing this season, as they have a season xG of 40.0, exceeding that by eight goals.

Spurs are actually under-performing this season. They have a 46.1 xG for the season, so they are under that rate by 1.9.

West Ham has two top-scorers on the team. Jarrod Bowen and Michael Antonio both have eight goals.

Spurs have just the one top-scorer, and it's their main man who has come back into full form in the last few months. Harry Kane has 12 goals for the season.

xG per 90 mins

Tottenham: 1.64

West Ham: 1.38

Despite having a superior number of goals scored and a much better season xG, West Ham are actually behind Spurs in the expected goals per game category.

This may have a little to do with the fact that Spurs have played one less game, but that won’t make it the 0.26 difference that it is.

But this is only xG, though, and as we’ve seen multiple times, xG is the final result.

The actual number for both sides for goals per 90 minutes once again has West Ham in front. The Hammers has 1.59 goals per 90 minutes, while Spurs has 1.39 goals per 90 minutes, a difference of 0.20.

Shot total per 90 mins

Tottenham: 12.61

West Ham: 12.55

Again, very close between these two sides. Both take a healthy number of shots per game, ranking eighth in the league for Spurs and ninth for West Ham.

This is another case of Spurs having played one less game, so the stats are slightly skewed.

West Ham have taken more shots, with 364 in total, while Spurs have taken 353. By that, though, and with the rate at which Spurs are shooting at per game, they would be ahead of West Ham if they had played the same number of games.

Shots on target per 90 mins

Tottenham: 4.86

West Ham: 4.00

In terms of accuracy of hitting the target, Spurs are quite up on The Hammers. 136 shots on target for them compared to West Ham’s 116, a solid 20 shots on target more for the season.

Tottenham find themselves in fifth in the league for total shots on target this season, fourth though for their per 90-minute rate.

West Ham aren’t too far off, sitting in eighth in the league for total shots, but fall back one place to ninth for their per 90 minutes rate.

Penalties

Tottenham: 3/3

West Ham: 3/5

West Ham’s penalty conversion rate makes for poor reading for them, especially when up against Spurs.

Tottenham, as you can see, has converted all three of their penalties this season; Harry Kane with two and former player Dele Alli with the other.

West Ham have a 60% conversion rate, with Michael Antonio missing his one attempt, Mark Noble missing one of his two attempts, while Manuel Lanzini has converted his two tries.

Corners per game

Tottenham: 5.29

West Ham: 5.45

As usual, a high number of shots will lead to a higher number of corners.

West Ham have earnt themselves 158 corners this season, which is 5th in the league. Tottenham are only ten behind with 148 on the season, which has them in 8th in the league
