Goalkeepers in Europe’s top five leagues with the highest clean sheet percentage
Goalkeepers aren't often given enough credit. To give the credit where its due, we have listed the top 10 goalkeepers in Europe's top five leagues for clean sheet percentage.
The role of a goalkeeper is one of the most important and arguably toughest positions to play on a football pitch. They're all alone to be the guardian of his team's goal, and they are expected to do anything possible to stop the ball from crossing their goal line.
Keeping a clean sheet is a big bonus for a keeper, and it really isn't an easy feat, especially to do it numerous times in a season.
The best goalkeepers in the world make the position look easy to play, and that's often why they don't get enough credit.
So, let's give some of the best their well-earned credit. Here the top 10 goalkeepers from Europe's top five leagues ranked by their clean sheet percentage.
Alisson (Liverpool) – 60.8%
Number one on this list is Liverpool's number one. Alisson has been with the Reds since 2018. He has won the Premier League and the Champions League amongst other trophies with them.
This season, Alisson ranks number one for clean sheets, with 20 clean sheets in 35 games. He has also conceded only 21 goals, the joint best for least amount conceded in the Premier League for starting goalkeepers.
Ederson (Man City) – 58.8%
The other Brazilian keeper from Liverpool's main rivals right now, Ederson has been almost matching Alisson this season for clean sheet percentage, however the Liverpool man has the lead due to a technicallity.
Both keepers share the top spot in the Prem for clean sheets with 20, and are also matching for goals conceded with 21. However, Alisson gets the top spot because he has missed two games this season, while Ederson has only missed one.
This takes his percentage down slightly, however when looking at goals against per 90 minutes, despite again being the same for goals conceded this season, Ederson ranks number one with 0.62 to Alisson's 0.64.
Alex Remiro (Real Sociedad) - 56.3%
The number one goalkeeper in La Liga for clean sheet percentage is Alex Remiro from Real Sociedad.
Sociedad are having a decent year, currently sitting in sixth in the league. Defensively, they have conceded 34 goals, the same amount as they have scored. It's the fifth least amount in the league.
