Euro weekend round-up: PSG and Bayern clinch titles, Ajax leave it late
Plenty happened this weekend across Europe as we saw both Bayern Munich and PSG clinching their league titles, as well as much more.
We’ve dived into the stats from across Europe’s top leagues to have a deeper dig into the weekend’s action.
Bayern win 10 in a row
Bayern Munich sealed their 10th successive Bundesliga title in style as they fended off Borussia Dortmund in a 3-1 home victory.
Julian Nagelsmann's side managed to score three goals from an xG of 1.96 as Serge Gnabry, Robert Lewandowski and Jamal Misiala were all on target for Bayern.
Lewandowski now has 33 league goals this season, which takes his total output in the Bundesliga to 310 goals in 381 appearances.
The Polish striker is only 55 goals behind Gerd Müller, who is currently the all-time Bundesliga top goalscorer with 365 goals.
Lewandowski has won six of the last eight golden boots in the Bundesliga and he is on track to winning his seventh this season. With three games to go he is currently 12 goals ahead of Patrik Schick, who has scored 21 league goals.
PSG wrap up Ligue 1
A point against Lens was enough for PSG to wrap up the Ligue 1 title as they reclaimed their status as French Champions.
Lionel Messi’s second half strike secured PSG’s 10th Ligue 1 title.
Four of Messi’s nine goals for PSG this season have come from outside the box and this goal was worthy of winning any league title.
PSG have averaged 2.29 points per game throughout the season and they are on course to finishing on 87 points, which would be their best points tally since 2018/19.
They have managed to accumulate 60% of their points at home this season and they are the only French side to have an unbeaten home record.
AC Milan keeping the pressure on
AC Milan picked up a huge three points over the weekend to maintain their spot at the top of Serie A.
They managed to come back from behind to beat Lazio 2-1 away from home, thanks to a 92nd minute winner.
Ciro Immobile gave Lazio the lead after just four minutes with his 26th goal of the season, but second half goals from Olivier Giroud and Sandro Tonali managed to seal the comeback.
AC Milan were worthy victors in the end as they had crafted out three big chances and had 25 shots to Lazio’s seven.
Milan’s key man was Rafael Leao, who was a constant threat down the left-hand side.
The Portuguese forward set up Olivier Giroud’s equaliser and he caused all sorts of problems for Manuel Lazzari, who was Lazio’s right back.
Leao completed eight successful dribbles and it will be no surprise to learn that he has completed more dribbles than any other player in Serie A this season with 91.
He has also chipped in with 13 goal contributions and has been one of Milan’s most consistent performers this time around.
AC are currently in the driving seat with 74 points from 34 matches, although Inter sit just two points behind them with a game in hand.
Ajax leave it late
Erik ten Hag was recently announced as the new Manchester United manager, but he still has a job on his hands of tying up the Eredivisie title for Ajax.
His side are currently four points ahead of PSV with four games to play.
It was looking like they were going to drop points this weekend too until Brian Brobbey popped up with an 88th minute winner to secure all three points.
The league leaders were the deserving victors as they had created four big chances to NEC Nijmegen’s three and they bossed possession with 67%.
Ajax have averaged 2.5 points per game this season and they are on course to finish with 85 points.
